Oh, Springfield, Missouri.
Home of Tuthill Vacuum and Blower Systems among other things (some company called Bass Pro Shops?).
Coming from Orlando, Florida, I can’t tell you the amount of times that I’ve had to explain to someone what and where Springfield, Missouri is on a map. My reluctance in embracing Springfield stems from each exasperated conversation that took place in explaining that Mississippi and Missouri are two different states.
Once I got over all of that, I realized there is more to Springfield than meets the eye.
I came from Orlando to Springfield immediately missing Disney World and all the other options that a large metropolitan area that an Orlando brings to the table.
But then, I discovered Springfield’s portfolio of coffee shops, restaurants, and quirky stores.
The options here are endless and it seems like there’s something new popping up each week. I’m a huge coffee nerd and I can’t tell you how awesome it is to be in a place has amazing coffee shops that aren’t named Starbucks. When I go back to visit family, there’s a piece of me that cringes when I don’t have the ability to swing by my favorite shop in the morning for a quick pick-me-up.
Side note: I totally took the title of this blog from this awesome shirt at Five Pound Apparel, a Springfield staple.
I was at Walmart looking through brands of coffee when a lady walked by and struck up a conversation about her favorite kinds. It felt completely out of the blue for me. Back home, no one approaches you in a store unless you did something wrong or if they want something from you. This woman took time out of her day to talk to a stranger about coffee. It was incredible.
It speaks a lot about the character of the people that live here. It feels like nowadays, people are unwilling to step out of their comfort zone and talk to someone that they don’t know. People allow the “awkwardness” of a situation cripple their ability to reach out to strangers.
That is not the Springfield, Missouri that I know.
It’s no surprise why Tuthill, based out of Burr Ridge, IL, chose a city like Springfield to do business in. A city that opens its arms to its citizens and provides a phenomenal quality of life. A city that matches up to the values that are expressed in the Tuthill Compass.
This series will be centered around what makes Springfield a great place to be and work in. We’re proud to operate out of Springfield and are ecstatic to show you why we love it here.
