Recapping Employee Appreciation Day

Have I talked about the Tuthill Compass yet?

If I had to pick one thing for you to know about Tuthill, it would have to be The Compass.

The Tuthill Compass

This is a pretty big deal.

When I interviewed at Tuthill, the thing that impressed me the most and that stuck out to me was their commitment to The Compass. This was weaved into our conversation and it was made clear from the get-go, what I was walking into.

One of the themes that I glean from The Compass is Tuthill’s commitment to its employees. Take a look through some of the lines of The Compass:

A Legion of Like-Hearted People With Astounding Impact
An ingenious company supporting flourishing families and spirited communities.

It’s Who We Are, What We Do, And What We Say
It all starts with me. Here. Now.

When I came face-to-face with The Compass during my interview, those were the two points that stuck out to me the most. On my drive home, I kept going those points over and over and I felt like my decision was made already. This is a company that cares about its employees and their families – so much so that they embedded it within their culture.

Let’s do some math:

  • There are 168 hours in a week.
  • You’ll spend about 56 hours sleeping (or at least you should), so we’re at 112 hours.
  • The average American’s full-time work week is 47 hours.
  • That’s close to 42%(!!!) of the time available that you’ll be spending at work.

Needless to say, it’s important that you feel comfortable where you work. Personally, I was looking for a company that is stable (), a company where I can put my degrees to work (), and a company with a strong organizational culture ().

So, when I reflect on this past Employee Appreciation Day, I can’t help but think on these things.

We were treated with these awesome cookies from Julies Chewies Gourmet Cookies. It seems like a small gesture, but it reinforces the feelings that I had during my interview.

Delicious chocolate chip cookies

I’ve landed in a place that matches up with what I was looking for and I couldn’t be more excited.
